The Grey Mare Mine

At The Grey Mare Mine, January 1986

The agglomeration of stamper battery components, cyaniding vats, and a Tangye pump at the Grey Mare is an example of the way that resistance to the expansion and regulation of Kosciusko National Park manifested itself. There is more to be said, but at this point let’s just have a slider with a few images from the 1980s and 1990s. The Grey Mare is a range of hills in the Jagungal wilderness and the Grey Mare Gold Mine located there had been in operation on and off for many years.

It would seem the mine had never paid its way but someone was probably compensated for the loss of their investment in equipment abandoned on site. My attitude has always been that there was nothing much to be gained from research along those lines.
