The agglomeration of stamper battery components, cyaniding vats, and a Tangye pump at the Grey Mare is an example of the way that resistance to the expansion and regulation of Kosciusko National Park manifested itself. It would seem the mine had never paid its way but someone was probably compensated for the loss of their investment in equipment abandoned on site. My attitude has always been that there was nothing much to be gained from research along those lines.
